Dinosaurs LIVE!

Tuesday we went to see Dinosaurs LIVE! at the Heard Museum in McKinney. The exhibit features life-size animatronic dinosaurs along the Heard Nature trails. There was a 46-ft T-Rex at the end of the trail...and one dinosaur that shot water out of his mouth. You would have thought Rett had died and gone to dinosaur heaven. He was practically skipping along the trails and running in front of the group shouting back to us: "Hey guys, I see another one, come on!". It was a beautiful day and after hiking the trails and visiting the indoor bug exhibit (which featured tarantulas, 5-legged frogs, hissing cockroaches, and snakes) we found a picnic table in the shade and ate lunch.
FUN DAY!

The only "scary" one...this one was obviously a carnivore

**Thanks for the pictures Wendy Q!

Trolley Ride

Yesterday Rett, Ellie and I met up with Courtney, Will, Wendy, Collin and Graham to take a ride on the M-line trolley. The M-line is a fully restored, vintage trolley car that will take you on a tour of the uptown neighborhood for FREE. The boys were in awe as the "train" pulled up and Rett's eyes were glued to the window most of the ride. We had SO.MUCH.FUN! This is the perfect activity for a 3 year old boy. You don't have to sit in a car seat...you can look out the window and it sounds like you are riding on a train.
We rode from the west village stop all the way down to St. Paul and then turned around. We got off halfway home and ate lunch a Potbelly's. The boys shared a lunchable(as an appetizer) and then shared a grilled cheese & baked lays(as their main coarse). :) My camera battery died after one pic...so Wendy was kind enough to send me these pics. Thanks Wendy!
Here comes the trolley:

Ellie LOVED the trolley too!

On the way back....can you tell how hot is was?

National Night Out

Tonight Rett and I went to "National Night Out" at one of our neighboring neighborhoods. They host this event every year in an effort to create a sense of community unity and promote awareness about keeping the neighborhood crime-free. It's super kid-friendly with a petting zoo, pony rides, multiple bounce houses, and hot dogs, water and snow cones galore. It was HOT but we had alot of fun!

Zoo Trip

Today I wrangled up the kids and we headed to the Dallas Zoo. It was a perfect day...nice weather and small crowds...plus I scored a great parking spot right up front. We did not see many animals and alot of the zoo was under construction but we still had a good time. We spent a good amount of time in the Children's Zoo where Rett could get out of the stroller and pet some animals and run around. He *almost* rode on the pony but changed his mind last minute. We also went for a carousel ride which was the highlight of his trip. Ellie was a perfect sport taking it all in.

Busy little bees

Wow-wee! We have been busy the past few days. We went to the lake over St. Patricks day. It was beautiful weather and we were able to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. A goose has been hanging out around my parents house and came up pretty close to us. We kept our distance because they have been known to peck at little ones. Rett of course wanted to get as close as possible...

We were so wiped out from our trip to the lake that we decided to skip the zoo. We are planning on going back...just another week when it's NOT spring break and packed to the gills with school aged kids. Since we skipped the zoo Rett was able to go over to Kate's house to play for a few hours thursday morning. He had a blast playing soccer with her and bouncing in their bounce house. Here are a few pics from the lake and also playing at Kate's house.

We have a busy weekend ahead of us. We are going to an engagement party Saturday night (sans kids, whoo-hoo) and my mother-in-laws birthday brunch on Sunday. We have a few more events in the works that we can't wait to share with you. STAY TUNED...

We're going on a "Staycation"

Even though I haven't "technically" seen a spring break since college, I still like to celebrate the "spring break week". Since we will not be going on a vacation like other spring breakers, I have declared that this week we are going on a staycation.

We have so many fun activities planned this week. We are planning on going here, here and here...in addition we are also going to take a qucik trip out to my parents lakehouse. Troy is taking off work Wed-Fri so we will truly get to go as a family.

We kicked off the Staycation by attending the annual St. Patrick's Day parade on Greenville Ave. It was the perfect day to go to a parade. The sun was shining, the the temperature just right and everyone was in good spirits.

Donut and Flower's Day

Today we've been out and about practically ALL day! We barely made it home in time to get a nap in for Rett. We started out the day with a trip to Krispy Kreme donuts. Rett had never been and I have only been once. I thought he might like it because you can actually watch the donuts being made. From the fryer, to the glazing, cooling and packaging. Well, I was right. Rett LOVED it. He was so intrigued by all the moving parts on the conveyor belt and how he could watch it from start to finish. The store was pretty empty and the ladies that worked there were so nice they gave Rett a chair to stand on to watch the donuts and an "official" Krispy Kreme hat to wear. (Note: We did this in lieu of Jazzercise this morning...not the healthiest choice.)

Next stop was to a playgroup where Rett had a complete and utter meltdown. So, I won't mention much about it other than we were only able to stay about 30 mins...

Last on the agenda was Home Depot to get some spring flowers. With the sun-shining I just like to have a little bit of color to look out the window to. It just so happened that they had a double "car" cart that I could put Rett and Ellie in. They looked so cute together and Rett was very protective of her...most of the time he had his hand on her back making sure she didn't fall. I think he really thought he was driving...he kept beeping the horn and telling people to "watch out".

Oh, and I almost forgot: SLEEP UPDATE (Night 3): Best night yet. Rett woke up only 1 time (at 4:15am). He came in our room, but I quickly picked him up and carried him back to his bed and he had a few sips of water out of his sippy cup and fell back asleep until 7:15am!!! Whoo-hoo! I gotta say, he loves earning stickers.
