Halloween Playdate

Our friend Courtney hosted a halloween playdate today. One of the perks of having kids is getting to dress them up in costumes for Halloween. I know I only have a few limited years before my kids are going to be deciding what they will be for halloween...so I've got to get all the costumes I like in now-when they really don't care what they are. So, this morning I got the Bug-catcher and the bumble-bee all dressed up again and we met freinds at courtney's.

Trunk or Treating

The church where Rett attends preschool hosts trunk or treating in their parking lot every year. In case you are not familiar with Trunk or treating...members of the church park their cars in the church parking lot and decorate the back of their cars and let the kids trick or treat out of their trunks. I think this must be a fairly new concept because I never went trunk or treating when I was growing up.
In addition to the many cars giving out candy, there were a few carnival type games and a bounce house and large slide. Troy was out of town so my mom came over to help get the kids ready and help with the kids at the event. I am so glad she came because I could have NEVER taken two kids to this by myself!

Dinosaurs LIVE!

Tuesday we went to see Dinosaurs LIVE! at the Heard Museum in McKinney. The exhibit features life-size animatronic dinosaurs along the Heard Nature trails. There was a 46-ft T-Rex at the end of the trail...and one dinosaur that shot water out of his mouth. You would have thought Rett had died and gone to dinosaur heaven. He was practically skipping along the trails and running in front of the group shouting back to us: "Hey guys, I see another one, come on!". It was a beautiful day and after hiking the trails and visiting the indoor bug exhibit (which featured tarantulas, 5-legged frogs, hissing cockroaches, and snakes) we found a picnic table in the shade and ate lunch.
FUN DAY!

The only "scary" one...this one was obviously a carnivore

Pickin' Pumpkins

Friday morning Troy and I got up and dressed the kids to go to the The Storybook Pumpkin Village at the Dallas Arboretum. Each year the massive and beautiful displays make a perfect backdrop for pumpkin pictures. I tried my best...but it's so difficult to get a picture of Rett and Ellie together where they are both similing, looking at the camera, etc. After many failed attempts, and my frusteration level rising, I abandoned the idea of the group picture and just let them play and snaped a few candid photos. Here are the results. Rett really liked hunting for the perfect pumpkin and Ellie mostly wanted to push our wagon and suck her thumb!

State Fair visit #2

State Fair 2010 recap: We walked around and saw the kids petting zoo...the automobile buildings (where we checked out cars and changed our minds about what we want in the future)... saw Big Tex, ate yummy food, rode rides and stayed for the parade of lights at dusk. It was a fun visit...one I can't wait to do again next year. :)

Maybe this will be our next car??? Can't imagine installing a carseat in that thing!

The Rides:

I could not believe he wasn't scared:

I really liked the cotton candy more than the kids!

Pumpkins

Rett was surprisingly decisive when picking out his pumpkin. He found the one he wanted quickly.

He walked around with it on his head for a good 5 mins

Then he stood up on a hay bale and tossed it back saying: "i don't want this one any more...I wanna pick out another one"....in perfect three year old style. :)
